ATTACHMENT

In many Eastern religions, attachment is seen as the root of all suffering.  In the path of liberation from the root chakra up to the crown, we are slowly, slowly letting go of matter, letting go of the physical world.  When we reach the crown and move fully into spirit, our final attachment is to our body.  When we die, we let go of our attachment to the physical to merge completely with spirit.

There are many other attachments along the way in our journey of life and attachment in itself is not a bad thing.  In fact, attachment is essential in the lower chakras.  Attachment can help to keep us alive, to keep our commitments and create the life we desire on earth. It’s tough because it’s not something we can live entirely without in the earth realm. We need to keep some healthy attachment to our loved one, our goals and agreements.  Yet, as we move to the crown, it can inhibit our ability to expand as it keeps us stuck in time.  It stops us from merging and being a part of the universal flow state. It stops us from expanding our beliefs and thoughts.  It can stop us from opening up to receive new information.  When we are attached to a particular belief we shut down the crown and are fixated in our way of thinking.

Letting go of attachment is about letting go of our fixation.  Especially our fixation on the external.  It’s about letting go of control and trusting the universe while it’s showing or teaching us something.  It’s opening to something that is bigger than us.  It’s about opening the crown to receive new information while letting go of our fixed views and beliefs.  It’s about being in flow. Rather than focusing on the object of the attachment- the lost job, the lost relationship, the elusive reward, we should redirect our energy to the self.  We must go inside to the inner witness.
